Larry Hughes, Chairman of the Board
Larry Hughes has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Bobcats, and Orlando Magic. He was drafted by Philadelphia in the 1st round of the 1998 NBA Draft out of Saint Louis University, where he was named Freshman of the Year. He was recognized as a versatile and athletic guard with strong defensive abilities, and was selected to the 2004-05 NBA All-Defensive 1st Team as a member of the Wizards.
He co-founded BTS in 2015 to fulfill his passion for teaching and developing basketball and life skills among youth in St. Louis and other communities.
Richard L. Campbell, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member
Richard Campbell founded New Amsterdam Group, a private asset management firm, which co-founded BTS with Larry Hughes. He has over 30 years of legal, investment banking and wealth management experience. Prior to founding NewAm, Richard was the President of a large multinational single-family office with operating companies in several countries. Richard started his career as a corporate finance lawyer during which he was involved in several initial public offerings, mergers, acquisitions, project finance and corporate development projects. For several years following his tenure as a corporate finance lawyer Richard was involved in building and selling several companies in a variety of industries. Companies in which he was active include ILS Launch (commercial satellite launch company), Corbett Technologies (IT security company), GreenStone Industries (cellulose insulation manufacture), Kovars Systems, and others.
Mr. Campbell received his Bachelor of General Studies degree from the University of Michigan, a Juris Doctorate law degree from Wayne State University, Michigan, and a Masters of Law from New York University.
Sean Mulrenan, CHief Financial Officer
Sean joined New Amsterdam Group in August 2014 as Senior Associate. He has over 10 years of experience in analytical roles focused on valuation, asset management, corporate finance, and financial analysis. Previously, he was an Analyst at Mount Kellett Capital Management, a $7bn multi-strategy investment firm specializing in distressed and special situation investing. Sean worked on the Investment and Asset Management teams there, focused on sourcing and assessing investment opportunities, as well as managing and overseeing the performance and realization of portfolio company investments. Prior to Mount Kellett, Sean worked at Interactive Brokers, LLC, a leading broker-dealer, under the CFO of the brokerage business. He began his career as a Corporate Legal Assistant at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City.
Mr. Mulrenan received his BA in Political Economy from Williams College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He also received his MBA from NYU Stern School of Business, graduating with Honors and concentrating in Finance.
Caroline Rolniak, Associate
Caroline Rolniak is an Associate at Basketball Training Systems, focusing on all areas of business growth and development. Caroline is responsible for researching, implementing, and optimizing BTS’s technology infrastructure. She is also instrumental in facilitating and designing a number of the business resources and training tools provided to all licensees of BTS. Caroline brings to BTS prior business experience including equity research and equity investment management. Caroline graduated from New York University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.
Dave Chamberlain, Board Member
Dave joined Kovar’s in 2006 as CEO. Kovar’s is a nationally-recognized chain of martial arts academies. Dave taught high school and coached wrestling and football in Defiance, Ohio, prior to embarking on a career in business. He spent thirty years in leadership positions with companies such as IBM, Gateway, and Novell. In addition, Dave has worked with startups and turnarounds, having been CEO of WebPutty and Versata. As CEO of Kovar’s, Dave has built Kovar’s training systems (similar to BTS) into an international program used by over 300 martial arts schools. Dave has written a novel and several short stories. He also has completed several marathons and ultra-marathons, including the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt.
David B. Kovar, Board Member
Dave has earned 10 Black Belts in 10 martial arts disciplines, in addition to his expertise as an instructor and teacher. In 1992, Dave Kovar was selected as the, “Instructor of the Year” by the World Martial Arts Association. He is known as the teacher of teachers and it was primarily for his abilities as an educator that Dave was awarded the Martial Arts Industry Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. As CTO of Kovar’s, Dave has built Kovar’s training systems (similar to BTS) into an international program used by over 300 martial arts schools. As the author of four books on parenting and considered to be an expert in bully prevention, Dave Kovar’s influence transcends martial arts. Due to the respect that Dave Kovar commands throughout the world of martial arts and the Company’s reputation as being highly innovative, Kovars Inc. is considered to be one of the Thought Leaders in the martial arts and fitness industries.
